The emperor (played by Zhang Bo in the series) is the great grandfather of Ying Zheng (Qin Shi Huang Di) and his mother, Queen Dowager Xuan (or Mi Yue as in the 2015 tv series, Legend of Mi Yue). This role is now played by Ning Jing, a Chinese actress who played Empress Dowager Xiao Zhuang of the Qing Dynasty in the 2003 Xiao Zhuang Epic.
